Something
interesting to think about:
There have been one or two bear sightings a month near the
park outside Conkle's Hollow and around Ash Cave. Tracks have also been
found along the rim trail at Conkles Hollow and the public hunting area
near Ash Cave. Recent sightings include Hocking Hills
State Park Campground, Zaleski State Forest (near Lake Hope State Park) and
Ash Cave. Shopping
the Hocking Hills-3 shops within just a few miles of each other.
You don't have to
go far to find a good bargain in collectibles,
crafts and homemade jams and jellies. Just a few
minutes from Old Man's Cave, there's alot of
shopping you just can't miss.
Take a scenic drive
along State Route 374 and stop off at the
Inn at Cedar Falls Gift Shop.

You can drive on
down the road to State Route 56, make a left and
then follow 56 until you get to Locust Grove Road on
the right. Make that right and go straight where it
makes a sharp veer to the right. This will place you
on on Creola Hue Road.
You'll pass
Lois' Summer Kitchen on
the left and within minutes, you can follow the
signs to
Wicker Cabin Gifts and
Collectibles,
turning right on the next street which is McVey
Road.
Coyotes in this neck of the woods?
If you stay at the
cottages at Hocking Hills State Park, you may get the chance to hear one
of the more haunting and unforgettable sounds you'll ever hear as the
coyotes holler out their high-pitched howls deep in the belly of the
gorge and in the dark of night.

Some folks
have compared the ghostly echoes of their yowls to the screaming cries
of a woman.
But don't fear. The coyote is not only one of the most elusive
members of the Hocking Hills wildlife but it is also one of the shyest,
seldom being seen by hikers along the trails.
